Two Stages - One Playhouse!

INTERACT is the educational outreach program of the Omaha Community Playhouse. Its objective is to provide educational theatrical programming for children through collaborations with arts professionals and other local arts organizations.

Educational programming in the arts can be tailored to any group or situation. The Omaha Community Playhouse has specifically designed workshops for a variety of groups in the area.  Teachers and performers are matched to the event, and programming can be designed to fit any space, time frame and budget.

Some examples of recent projects:

• The Playhouse worked with Omaha Public Schools to develop a workshop series that combined drama and American History.  Students at five OPS high schools participated in The Truman Project and attended the Playhouse production of Give 'Em Hell, Harry!

• Opera Omaha combined forces with the Playhouse to produce a series of opera workshops for elementary school students.  Students learned about singing, dramatic structure and characterization.  By the end of the workshop, students had created their own miniature operas.

• The Playhouse partnered with Omaha Public Schools and Westside Schools for a series of workshops for high school students based on themes from Ragtime: The Musical.  Students used dramatic tools to examine issues from the early 20th century “ragtime” era such as immigration, racism, sexism and capitalism.

• Instructors of dance, music, acting and visual design have taught a series of classes with a multicultural theme for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Omaha.

• The Playhouse worked with the Millard Public Schools to provide drama workshops for every fifth grade in the district as part of their supplemental fine arts programming.  Professional acting instructors were contracted to travel to each school to conduct the workshops and to help identify gifted students.

Many organizations in the Omaha area are doing vital work in arts education.  The Omaha Community Playhouse welcomes opportunities to work with you in your endeavors and use our combined resources to raise arts awareness in Omaha.  Whether the subject is dinosaurs, dance or Dali, we can help create an educational experience to meet your needs.
